Roy Williams' critically acclaimed new show about Marvin Gaye is currently playing at Hackney Empire. To celebrate Soul coming to the theatre, Passa Parola is serving aperitivo this weekend. For an hour before each performance, our bars will be serving a selection of free appetisers and nibbles to accompany your pre-show drinks in true aperitivo style.
You only have to pay for your drinks - our selection of tasty treats are absolutely free, in keeping with the aperitivo tradition.
What is aperitivo?
Originating in Milan, the idea behind aperitivo is to kick-start the digestion and socialise with friends before your main meal. The word ‘aperitivo’ means 'to open', referring to something that literally 'opens your palate’!
It’s a great way to relax and unwind after a busy day, catch up with friends and take the edge of your hunger before seeing one of the shows at the Empire.
Eating and drinking aperitivo
Classic aperitivo drinks include bitters and spritzes such as Campari, Vermouth and Aperol. But in recent years Italians have been switching to wines as an aperitivo.
The Passa Parola bar will be serving a selection of free appetisers and nibbles to accompany your pre-show drinks. Our selection includes:
Mediterranean pasta salad
So why not come in and experience a piece of genuine Italian culture in Hackney before seeing a show. Not only will you receive a warm welcome, you can also stimulate your appetite and relax with friends in true aperitivo style!
